RhD Isoimmunisation: Prevention and Management
| Name | St. Joseph's Hospital Kitgum |
| Activity Title | RhD Isoimmunisation: Prevention and Management |
| Details | This session covers RhD isoimmunisation in pregnancy: how a RhD-negative woman becomes sensitised, the effects on the fetus and newborn, antenatal screening, and prevention with anti-D immunoglobulin. It is intended for clinical staff at SJHK who care for women during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. It will be delivered as a presentation with case discussion and time for questions.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Explain how RhD isoimmunisation occurs and why the pregnancy in which sensitisation occurs is usually spared.
List the events in pregnancy that can sensitise a RhD-negative woman.
Describe the fetal and neonatal complications of haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn.
Select the screening tests done at booking and at 28 weeks, and state how to interpret a positive antibody screen.
Identify when anti-D immunoglobulin is indicated, and describe the surveillance of a woman who is already sensitised. |
