COVID-19: Child & Adolescent Health focuses on prevention and health promotion for children, adolescents and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The course features interactive activities on concepts important in the care of children, adolescents and families affected by COVID-19 and highlights the secondary impacts of the pandemic and ways to address these impacts. The mental health effects and psychosocial care and supports needed for children, adolescents and their families will be highlighted. The intended audience is nurses, midwives, physicians and other healthcare workers.
This course is part of a series by the SickKids-Ghana Paediatric Nursing Education Partnership called COVID-19: ‘Promoting Physical & Mental Health of Children, Families, and Health Workers’. Other courses in the series are:

Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the transmission of COVID-19 in newborns, children and adolescents, as well as implications on pregnancy and breastfeeding.
2. Discuss the transmission of COVID-19 in schools, households and communities.
3. Describe the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in newborns, children and adolescents, in outpatient, hospital and home settings, including rehabilitation post-infection.
4. Identify the signs of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children caused by COVID-19.
5. Identify burden of disease and describe priorities for addressing COVID-19 risks in child and adolescent health.
6. Describe the impact of COVID-19 on children and adolescents and their families within the home and community.
7. Describe the psychosocial care and support for children, adolescents and their families impacted by COVID-19. |
