| Activity Title | National MPDSR CoP (April - June) |
| Details | Between 1st April and 25th June 2026, the Ministry of Health, through the Reproductive and Child Health Department, conducted weekly National Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Review and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions. The virtual multidisciplinary sessions brought together healthcare professionals from across Uganda to strengthen knowledge and competencies in maternal and newborn health through structured maternal and perinatal death reviews, expert presentations, and interactive case discussions.
The CPD programme focused on improving the prevention, early recognition, referral, and management of obstetric emergencies while reinforcing implementation of national clinical guidelines and quality improvement actions arising from MPDSR reviews. Dedicated sessions were delivered on the prevention and management of babies with birth asphyxia, including neonatal resuscitation and the management of hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy, as key strategies for improving maternal and perinatal health outcomes. The sessions were facilitated by national experts from the Ministry of Health, Regional Referral Hospitals, Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital, professional associations, universities, and implementing partners. Through expert-led presentations, peer learning, and case-based discussions, participants strengthened their clinical decision-making, multidisciplinary collaboration, and application of evidence-based practices, contributing to continuous professional development and improved quality of maternal and newborn care in Uganda.
