DetailsA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) was conducted at Bubaare Health Centre III to strengthen healthcare workers’ knowledge and skills in the prevention, early detection, surveillance, infection prevention and control (IPC), and reporting of suspected Ebola cases. The session focused on screening and early identification of clients presenting with signs and symptoms suggestive of EVD, including the importance of taking an appropriate history and identifying possible exposure and contact risks. Healthcare workers were reminded of the need to maintain a high index of suspicion while ensuring that suspected cases are managed safely and appropriately. The CPD also covered surveillance, emphasizing the identification, documentation, monitoring, and follow-up of suspected cases and contacts. Participants were encouraged to promptly recognize and report unusual clusters of illness and other events of public health importance through the established surveillance systems. The infection prevention and control (IPC) component highlighted standard precautions, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, safe patient care practices, environmental cleaning and disinfection, waste management, and measures to prevent transmission within the health facility. The session further emphasized timely and accurate reporting of suspected EVD cases through the appropriate reporting channels. Healthcare workers were encouraged to ensure completeness and accuracy of records and to promptly notify the relevant health authorities when a suspected case is identified. Overall, the CPD enhanced healthcare workers’ preparedness to screen, detect, prevent transmission, conduct surveillance, and promptly report suspected Ebola Virus Disease cases, thereby contributing to improved preparedness and response at Bubaare HC III and within the surrounding community.
