DetailsPeriodontitis is defined as a chronic, progressive inflammatory disease affecting the periodontium surrounding the tooth. It eventually results in deterioration of the tooth-supporting apparatus and may result in tooth loss if untreated. Periodontal diseases, as well as dental caries, are considered the most widespread oral diseases worldwide. Periodontal diseases have been linked to increased incidence of multiple systemic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, possible complications of pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases and kidney diseases. In 2014, the WHO reported a high prevalence of periodontal diseases in Egypt, 80% of the studied subjects suffered from periodontal diseasesn Objectives Course Objective : Even though extensive studies on the prevalence of periodontal diseases in various populations worldwide have been carried out, data for the Egyptian population is limited. The present study was carried out to evaluate the occurrence and the severity of periodontal disease and its correlation with different risk factors.. : Periodontal examination was performed on 343 adults attending the outpatient clinics of the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, as well as three private clinics.
